Warrenton Christian Preschool will be closed today, Wednesday, February 8 Add Comment Greetings to PreK Parents, Our annual Valentine’s Day field trip is scheduled for Tuesday February 14th. That’s one week from today. Warrenton Manor has requested that we be at their building at 11:30. This is a student, parent and teacher event. The purpose of this annual event is to teach our students that Valentine’s Day is for showing love to others. The residents at the Warrenton Manor are always appreciative of our visits. Every year they tell me how much they enjoyed watching the children sing their songs. It provides a bright spot in their day. It is humbling to notice how such a small visit brings them joy. Warrenton Manor is located behind Safeway; Warrenton Manor LLC. 663 Hastings Ln, Warrenton, VA 20186. 540) 349-1353. This is not a nursing home but is an assisted living facility. We will be singing, handing out home-made (made in class) Valentines and general visiting with the elderly. We will be reviewing the importance of visiting elderly people with our students in our classrooms and how this shows the love of God to others. If your child is not comfortable meeting new people then we recommend not pushing them to do something that is outside of their comfort zone. Just be a good example, be calm and carry on. You can help prepare your child for this event by reviewing the polite custom of hand-shaking, saying hello, smiling and kind words. Our classroom song says “….Put out your right hand and look them in the eye, put a smile on your face, then you say hi….” Our plan is to receive children at the normal drop-off time. We will have class time until about 11:00. Parents will need to pick up their child at 11:00 to 11:15 and accompany them to the Manor. Parents may leave the event with their child at any time. Since we will be blessed with numerous parents we will enjoy the extra sets of eyes to keep out students safe. If you will need assistance in transportation then please let us know. We may need to arrange car pool rides for some. Younger siblings are welcome to attend. As always, if your child is sick or contagious they will be at home in bed and in our prayers. Please let me know if you have any questions or insights. Blessings to all, Becca Lotane Dear Parents, This is a reminder that our annual Christmas play will be THIS Sunday, Dec. 18th. We ask that the children be dropped off at 4:00; the program will begin at 4:30. Due to the large number of people that we have attending this event it will be helpful if we try to do leave coats in your car or hang them up in the church vestibule. Children can leave their coats in their classrooms. ** PreK Children will need to be dropped-off at the church NURSERY at 4pm on Sunday December 18th. ** PreK Children will need to picked-up and signed-out from the church NURSERY by 1 (ONE) parent. ** All PreK students should wear a white top and black pants/ skirt/ stockings and black shoes on the night of the program (unless otherwise noted to you personally). If you do not have a white top and black pants please contact us. ** Caterpillar students should wear their “Sunday best”. ** Parents may take pictures at anytime during the program but please be mindful of others that are behind you! Please join us for a light reception after our celebration. As always, keep a watchful eye over our children's safety. There will be many more people at this event than our last event, the Fall Festival. Let’s all stay alert for anything that seems amiss. Additionally, you will be receiving a copy of an article from the Warrenton Lifestyle magazine regarding the Fauquier Homeless shelter. I am hoping that you will be able to find a moment to read it. To continue in our help to the Homeless Shelter we will be collecting canned goods for the shelter. You can bring those food items to the church lobby on the day of the play. If you would like a copy of their other needs then let me know and we can get a copy of that list to you. Finally, we will be closed from December 21st – Jan 2nd for Christmas Break. We will look forward to seeing everyone on January 3rd! Many Blessings to all, Rebecca Lotane Director Warrenton Christian Preschool 540-347-8580 http://wcpreschool.weebly.com Dear Parents, We are very happy to have the opportunity to have pictures taken this year by one of our preschool parents, Michael Polifko. Michael received his degree in Physical Education from George Mason University with a minor in photography. He currently teaches PE in an elementary school in Fairfax County. He has volunteered to take the photos for us this year. Thank you so much Michael. Picture days will be as follows: Tuesday November 29th: Ms Cathy’s Butterfly Class and Ms Christi’s 2-day Caterpillar class. Wednesday November 30th: Ms Catrina’s Butterfly Class and Ms Christi’s 3-day Caterpillar class. All pictures will be taken during the first hour of school. If you feel the need to come inside to help with your child’s photo then you should drop your child off at the door as usual, park and then come inside. Siblings are welcome. Pictures will be available to you well before Christmas. We will ask only a nominal fee (if any fee at all) to help cover the possible costs of any cd’s needed. Those details will be passed along to you when determined. Blessings to all, Becca Greetings to all, This is just a quick up-date on preschool happenings, and really just the tip of the iceberg. Our Bible story for the past 2 weeks has been about Noah. We learned many songs about Noah. Next week our Bible story will be about baby Moses. Our current character trait is obedience/obey. Our last character trait was orderly. These words are used through out the day with in their proper context to teach good life skills that will help our children have success in life. All of our students will be enjoying learning about fall leaves and pumpkins. We will incorporate stories, art, math, literature and science when teaching about the changing seasons. Next week I will be teaching isolation movements to a rhythmic beat. I will be using a skeleton (green plastic non-scary) to show them where their joints are and how they connect. *****It has come to my attention that our local family homeless shelter, http://www.fauquierfamilyshelter.org/, is in acute need of food pantry items such as canned soup, peanut butter, jelly, ravioli, etc. Marian King, jmchj@comcast.net, is the contact person for our shelter ministry here at Warrenton Church of Christ. She tells me that the shelter contacted her about this need. They said they have never seen it so low. You can contact Marian directly or bring food items to drop off in the car line and Marian can pick them up here. This is a good opportunity to be a cheerful giver to needy people right in our own town. I know that God will be happy with any effort to help. It is my plan for our preschool family to be responsible for the month of November for the homeless shelters fresh food needs. If you would be willing to provide a gallon or two of milk or some fresh fruits for the homeless shelter then please let me know. Typically someone signs up for one week and makes one trip to the homeless shelter. Or you may want to just bring in one or two items and someone here can get them to the shelter. OR YOU might be the person who takes the items to the shelter. Their web-site is listed in the above paragraph. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time. I am excited to partner with my preschool families to be a part of serving people. Many blessings to all, Becca I forgot to ask if anyone has an old blanket that we can use to put on the ground to sit and snack on. If anyone has something that we can use please bring it. Thanks. FYI. I’m logging off the preschool email for the day. I will not see any emails until Friday morning. You can message me on Facebook. See you at the farm. Becca This is a reminder to everyone that we have our Farm Visit tomorrow. Plan to be at the farm by 9:45. OR Be at the church building no later than 9:00. Ms Christi will leave the parking lot at 9:00 sharp! www.pleasanthillfarmva.com Don’t forget cameras and snacks. It looks like we will have amazing weather!! We’re so excited. See you there! Becca Good morning! We will have the fire truck on campus tomorrow at 9:30. We always look forward to their visit and the kids love getting to see the fire truck up close! Just a couple of details: 1. Please make sure you child has a jacket because we will be outside for a while with the fire truck. 2. For students who normally attend on Wednesdays, drop off remains the same. Parents do not need to come in for this event. 3. Ms. Christi’s 2 day Caterpillars are invited to join us accompanied by a parent. 4. Younger Siblings are invited to join us accompanied by a parent. As we focus on Fire Safety week, we look forward to seeing our fine men and woman who put out fires! Let us know if you have any questions. Lisa Middleton Our farm visit this year is to Pleasant Hill Farm, www.pleasanthillfarmva.com. After approximately an hour and a half visit we will leave this farm and visit a second small pumpkin farm that is only 4 miles away; Wilevington Farm. After our snack and singing time parents are free to meander on over to the pumpkin farm. Directions for both farms are given below. The date is on Thursday October 6th. The rain date is Wednesday October 12th. There will be no Lunch Bunch on Thursday October 6th, unless we have rain. To find out if the trip has been cancelled due to rain you can call the Preschool phone to hear the message or check our web page; www.wcpreschool.weebly.com site. We plan to be at the farm at 9:45. If you feel the need to follow someone to the farm our teachers will be leaving the church building at 9:00 sharp. Please let us know if you would like to follow us. We greatly encourage carpooling to the farm if possible. All children should dress for the weather of the day, wear close toed shoes and bring their normal snack for a snack time at the farm. Parents may want to bring a snack as well. We will have a hand-washing station available. The potty is located up at the house which is a short walk. This year’s event is very different from our previous farm trips. It is a simpler visit with beautiful mountain views in the background. It will be the perfect time to relax, visit with others and take pictures. Parents should take note that this is a working farm and there are electric fences on this farm. Those fences are many yards awayfrom where our students will be visiting. Please pay attention to the location of those fences and monitor your child. At no time should a child chase a farm animal, this farm is a working farm and not a petting farm. Directions from the Carousel Ice Cream/ Foster’s Grill intersection in Warrenton: Take a right onto 211 west, go approx. 8 miles to the Shell station and a traffic light. Take a left onto 299, go approx. 8 miles to the Maw&Paws/ Post Office/ Methodist church. Take a right onto 640/ Monumental Mills Rd. go .07 miles (Take note of this right hand turn. You can see the farmhouse off in the distance, it’s a big white house. Circa 1800.) Pleasant Hills Rd will be on your left with stone pillars at the entrance to the drive. Watch for a WCP sign to help you on your way. Directions to the pumpkin patch from Pleasant Hills. Take a left onto 640/ Monumental Mills. Travel approx. 4 miles, follow the pumpkins along the way. Wilevington Farm will be on your left and well-marked for pumpkins. Wilevington Farm is run by retired folks who like to help educate children. Pumpkins are available for sale but the owners want me to tell you - PLEASE do not feel obligated to purchase. As always please let me know if you have any questions. A prayer or two regarding the safety and success of our field trip is greatly appreciated. Blessings to all, Becca Lotane 540-347-8580 Greetings to all, We are so happy to report that we have had a wonderful start to preschool this year. It has been so encouraging to me to hear the children learning songs, enjoying books, learning how to line up, wash hands and so much more. We had our very first chapel times this week. We are formally learning the Lord’s Prayer this year. I have only 5 things to mention. (As always, I will underline the pertinent points to facilitate quick reading.) 1. Remember the traffic pattern as mentioned in our Parents Meeting. This is an important part of our zoning requirements. If you have questions about this you can ask any staff member as you pull through the car line. 2. Our first Lunch Bunch is tomorrow, Thursday, and is for PreK students only. We need their lunches packed and marked “lunch”. The cost is $5 and should be put in the front pocket of their folder with your child’s name on it. Pick up time is at 1:00. 3. Please note that my cell phone is only effective when I am in Warrenton. Once I travel home to Rixeyville I can receive text messages and only enough reception to see who is calling but not enough to carry on an intelligent conversation! 4. Don’t forget to “friend” us on facebook; Warrenton Christian Preschool. 5. We are inviting any parent who thinks they may be willing to come to school for 1 hour to participate in a “Career Visit”. We are looking for people to share information about their jobs (or hobbies) that would be interesting and appropriate for our preschool students. You can contact me via email and we can work out the details. I am particularly interested in anyone who plays an instrument, but almost anything will be interesting and educational for our students. I was walking down our halls this morning and each class was learning a different song!! How fun! How cool! I love my job. It makes me smile. God is Good all the time. Becca |
